Woody Harrelson Got Into a Motorcycle Accident on the Way to an Interview and His ‘Cheers’ Co-Star Ted Danson Treated the Wound: ‘He Could’ve Been Hurt Badly’

Woody Harrelson revealed on the “Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend” podcast that he got into a motorcycle accident while he was driving to the studio to record the interview alongside his “Cheers” co-star and longtime friend Ted Danson. Harrelson collided with a Tesla and was thrown over his handlebars and over the hood of the car. He was wearing a helmet and avoided any potential head injury.

“A tumble is a fair term. I did go over my handlebars,” Harrelson revealed on the podcast following the accident. “I was honestly and embarrassingly passing this Tesla on the left that I felt was moving a little slow and I didn’t realize he was moving slow because he was taking a left. I was on a motorcycle.”

“I always feel like the shortest distance between two points in L.A. is a motorcycle. But today it proved not to be so very fast in terms of transporting. … I always thought I would be ok. I felt there was some pain involved. I felt the pain but I never thought I’d be killed or anything or maimed.”

Harrelson did sustain a wound on his wrist; none other than Danson patched him up when he got to the podcast studio. Danson once played a doctor on the soap opera “The Doctors.” The interview ended up starting late because of the accident.

“We’re in the bathroom and I was like, ‘You played a doctor right?’ and Ted said, ‘I also played a lawyer so we can sue the guy,”” Harrelson recalled.

The friends said that Danson cleaned Harrelson’s wound and wrapped it up. Harrelson added: “His confidence, his demeanor, everything about the way he does it makes you feel like you’re in the best hands. I never doubted him.”

“I am sad,” Danson then said. “He could’ve been hurt badly. It does make me sad.”

Harrelson and Danson were being interviewed by O’Brien to promote their latest collaboration, a new podcast titled “Where Everybody Knows Your Name with Ted Danson and Woody Harrelson (Sometimes),” which launched June 12. Each week on the podcast, the duo sit down with a special guest to “dig beyond the career highlights and into the stuff of life that makes us who we are,” according to SiriusXM’s logline for the podcast.

Guests on “Where Everybody Knows Your Name” are set to include Eric Andre, Will Arnett, Kristen Bell, Laura Dern, Jane Fonda, Simu Liu, Megan Mullally, Conan O’Brien, Nick Offerman, Martin Short and Mary Steenburgen. The podcast is produced by SiriusXM’s Team Coco, the Conan O’Brien-led podcast network and digital media company it acquired in 2022.

“The best part about doing this podcast is that it’s given me an excuse to hang out with Ted,” Harrelson said in a statement when the podcast was announced. “Sure, we’ll talk with interesting guests, and sure we’ll share some laughs along the way, but the biggest win will be rekindling our romance, I mean friendship, after all this time. And I’m glad listeners will be able to join us for that.”
