Women’s Basketball Travels to Costa Rica for 2024 Foreign Tour – Troy University Athletics

TROY, Ala. – Troy women’s basketball embarks on its quadrennial trip overseas as it travels to Costa Rica from July 18-25 for the opportunity to compete against foreign teams, immerse themselves in a new culture, venture into the wildlife and volunteer in the community.

“We are excited and grateful about our upcoming trip to Costa Rica,” head coach Chanda Rigby said. “The extra 10 practices that the NCAA grants teams participating in international tours have really been helpful in bringing together our team that is comprised of so many newcomers.”

The Trojans depart for San Jose on Thursday, July 18, spending three days there before heading to Los Sueños for the final four days of the trip.

On the court, Troy looks to take on two teams in Roswell (July 19) and the Costa Rican National Team (July 20) after the NCAA sanctioned 10 extra practices. Meanwhile, off the court, the Trojans look to volunteer at an orphanage and host a kid’s clinic.

Troy’s trip to Costa Rica emphasizes an opportunity to immerse the players, coaches and staff in the culture. While in San Jose, the Trojans will get a chance to venture throughout the country’s capital before visiting a coffee plantation and the La Paz Waterfall. Then, the women’s basketball team journeys on ATV, horseback riding and private Catamaran excursions in Los Sueños.

“The opportunity to experience the culture in Costa Rica is a priceless opportunity, and I will forever be thankful that Troy University is providing this rich experience to me, my staff and my team,” Rigby said.

Women’s basketball comes into 2024-25 after battling through the first-ever postseason victory in the WNIT to get a Fab 4 appearance. The program opens the new season on Nov. 4 in Buffalo, N.Y., for the MAC-SBC Challenge with a new roster. Three of the 13 players on the 2023-24 roster are returning: Leilani Guion, Zay Dyer and Shaulana Wagner. However, Troy revamped the roster with the acquisition of Briana Peguero, Ashley Baez, Emani Jenkins, Fortuna Ngnawo, Brianna Jackson, Adriana Jones, Khila Morris, Emma Imevbore and Jamirica Roberson from the transfer portal.
