Wind forces flames to travel, causing $150k in damages in Far South Abilene house fire
ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – Strong winds last Friday caused a house fire to worsen, leading to hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of damages in the Red Bud Park area of Abilene.
The Abilene Fire Department (AFD) responded to a house fire in the 2600 block of South 41st Street just after 6:00 p.m. last Friday, June 7. Upon firefighters’ arrival, they noted smoke and flames.
A press release from AFD reads in part, “Due to strong winds, the structure to the west of the initial reported fire was also affected. Due to the multiple exposures involved, a second alarm was called; additional units responded to the scene.“
Not long after, a third alarm for a fresh crew was called because the initial crew needed to rehab.
The fires were eventually extinguished without injuries. AFD estimated damages to be $150,000 across the two homes involved.
