Will Smith and Jada make first appearance since separation reveal
Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith made their first joint red carpet appearance since revealing they have been separated for seven years, as they arrived at the Los Angeles premiere of Bad Boys: Ride Or Die on Thursday.
The I Am Legend star, 55, was joined by the actress, 52 — whom he recently called his ride or die — at the TCL Chinese Theatre. It was a full on family affair, as the pair were also accompanied by their kids Willow, 23, and Jaden, 25, and Will’s oldest son Trey, 31, from his first marriage to Sheree Zampino, 56.
His mother-in-law Adrienne Banfield-Norris, 70, also showed her support and was seen posing for pictures with the family on the red carpet.
The actor sported a stylish all-black look consisting of a blazer, pants, matching black t-shirt, and a beanie atop his head. Meanwhile the Matrix actress dropped jaws in a unique sheer black and white dress with a swirl pattern and a wavy cape, that highlighted her cleavage.
In October, Pinkett Smith revealed that though she and Smith have been secretly separated, they had no plans to divorce.
Jada completed the look with black heels and wore her tresses in a platinum buzzcut.
Willow showed off her trendy style in a brown long plaid coat and matching pants underneath. She added height to her look with chunky black platform boots, and held a black clutch in her hand. The fashionista rocked an afro hairstyle for the premiere.
Meanwhile Jaden was joined by girlfriend Sab Zada at the event.
He rocked a puffy black vest over a white button-up and black tie. The singer completed his outfit with oversized black jeans and sneakers.
Sab — who’s been dating Jaden since 2020 — donned a cleavage-baring black bustier and sheer black pants. She finalized the outfit with black boots.
The status of Will and Jada’s marriage is complex.
While appearing on the Today Show in October, Pinkett Smith told Hoda Kotb that they made the decision to separate seven years earlier, after feeling ‘exhausted with trying’ to work on their marriage.
‘I think we were both still stuck in our fantasy of what we thought the other person should be,’ she explained of what caused them to drift apart.
In Pinkett Smith’s book, Worthy, she describes the separation as a ‘divorce,’ but clarified they never filed any paperwork.
‘It was not a divorce on paper. But it was a divorce,’ Pinkett Smith said.
In the interview, the mother-of-two – who admitted in 2020 that she’d had an affair with singer August Alsina – said she considered a legal divorce but could never go through with it, candidly revealing that she made a ‘promise’ to her husband that she would never give him a ‘reason’ to get divorced.
She noted that no permanent decisions have been made about the future of her marriage, explaining that she and Will are ‘still figuring it out’.
‘We’ve been doing some really heavy-duty work together,’ she said. ‘We just got deep love for each other and we are going to figure out what that looks like.’
Jada’s marriage to Will came under blistering public scrutiny in 2020, when she interviewed him on her chat show Red Table Talk about an ‘entanglement’ she had four years earlier with Alsina, who is 21 years her junior.
The relationship gained even more notoriety in 2022 when Will slapped Chris Rock at the Oscars for making a bald joke about Jada that visibly offended her.
While speaking to Daily Mail’s YOU Magazine, Pinkett Smith said ‘many positive things came after’ Smith slapped Rock.
‘After all those years trying to figure out if I would leave Will’s side, it took that slap for me to see I will never leave him. Who knows where our relationship would be if that hadn’t happened?’
Will was also joined by his Bad Boys co-star, 59, Martin Lawrence at Thursday’s event — after they recently attended the Berlin premiere together.
The two thrilled the crowd gathered outside of the theater as they were pictured performing on the roof of a bus while making their grand entrance at the event. The former Fresh Prince of Bell Air star was seen holding a microphone and singing.
Meanwhile Lawrence rocked a dark blue velvet suit with a crisp white shirt underneath.
He completed the outfit with black sunglasses.
Martin and Will also mingled with Joe Pantoliano, 72. Joe was accompanied by wife Nancy Sheppard, who looked stylish in a lime green coat and metallic blue dress.
Martin and Will teamed up once again for the fourth installment of their buddy comedy franchise. Will and and Martin made their respective debuts as Detectives Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett in the first Bad Boys movie, which was released in 1995.
The pair went on to reprise their roles in Bad Boys II and Bad Boys For Life, which were released in 2003 and 2020, respectively.
Angela Simmons, 36, was also in attendance and thrilled in a very revealing look, rocking a sheer dress with silver embellishments. She rounded out the look with a pair of silver heels and wore her long raven tresses in a straight style.
Comedian Tiffany Haddish, 44, looked glamorous in a busty gold gown with strappy heels. She wore her tresses in a chic bob hairdo.
Jenna Kanell, 32, showed off her edgy style in a black bustier worn over a white shirt and black tie. She completed the look with bell bottom pants.
Rhea Seehorn, 52, looked lovely in a form-fitting colorful floral dress. She added a touch of sparkle to the look with metallic silver shoes.
Her short blonde tresses were tucked behind her ears and she wore chunky gold hoops for the occasion.
Brandi Marie King went shirtless under a yellow paster pantsuit, while Tatyana Ali, 45, looked chic in a white asymmetrical one.
Dania Ramirez, 44, cut a glamorous figure in a silk red suit, which she teamed with a gold clutch.
Gia Peppers looked pretty in pink, sporting a bright ruffled dress and silver heels.
Tasha Smith, 53, flashed the flesh in a sultry black dress with cut-outs.
Toni Braxton, 56, had all eyes on her as she went shirtless under an open white pantsuit. She accessorized with a gold clutch and wore white platform heels for the occasion.
Grey’s Anatomy star Eric Dane, 51, cut a handsome figure in an all-black look. He was joined by his daughters Billie Beatrice Dane and Georgia Geraldine Dane, whom he shares with actress Rebecca Gayheart, 52.
US producer Jerry Bruckheimer, 80, cut an elegant figure in a cream suit and sunglasses.
Ioan Gruffudd, 50, looked dashing in a black suit. He was accompanied by fiancée Bianca Wallace who was chic in a short Missoni dress.
Podcaster Jay Shetty, 36, and his wife Radhi Devlukia-Shetty, 33, made a stylish duo in contrasting outfits.
The Cast of Peacock’s ‘Bel Air’ was also in attendance.
It was announced that development on the fourth film in the action-comedy franchise was underway just after the release of the third movie.
Smith confirmed that both he and Lawrence would return for the new movie in February of 2023, when it was also revealed that El Arbi and Fallah, who directed the third installment in the franchise, would also direct the fourth film.
Performers such as Rhea, Vanessa Hudgens, and Alexander Ludwig rounded out the movie’s cast.
Production on the new film commenced in April of last year, with much of shooting taking place in Atlanta and Miami.
Although filming was briefly paused due to the onset of the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike, the cast and crew reconvened earlier this year and wrapped in March.
Bad Boys: Ride Or Die is currently scheduled to premiere in the United States on June 7.
