Summer has officially arrived and that means we’re in the midst of the year’s peak travel period.

Destinations around the globe are buzzing but settling on the right one can be tricky.

Here’s where you can travel to make the most of your July this year.

Where to Travel for the Fourth of July

Independence Day is poised to be a busy holiday stretch in 2024 with AAA forecasting that nearly 71 million people will travel over the first week of July. One destination that will surely be buzzing is Texas’ Galveston Island, which boasts 32 miles of summer charm in addition to an exciting Fourth of July parade and fireworks over the Gulf of Mexico.

In the nation’s capital, travelers can celebrate American independence by partaking in the Willard Ardbeg Annual Independence Day BBQ and Block Party on the scenic Cafe du Parc Terrace at the Willard InterContinental Washington, D.C.

In addition to awesome views of the city’s fireworks, guests can chow down on hot dogs and burgers fresh from the grill and cool off with ice pops and signature cocktails.

Where to Travel to Escape the Heat

July is poised to be a scorcher in many parts of the world but travelers can escape the blistering heat in Alberta, Canada’s picturesque Banff National Park where the average high temperature this month is just 64 degrees. In addition to spectacular scenery, visitors can look forward to challenging hikes, rock climbing, helicopter tours and so much more.

You can also embrace the “coolcation” trend with one of FTLO Travel’s first summer trips to Iceland from July 17-21. The Summer Olympics will take over Paris less than two weeks later, kicking off July 26 in the City of Light. Travelers can also cross the border into Germany to catch the knockout rounds of the 2024 European Football Championship, which will culminate in Berlin on July 14.

Meanwhile, Formula 1 will descend on the continent with Grand Prix events scheduled in the United Kingdom, Hungary and Belgium.

In the U.S., sports fans can book their ticket to Arlington, Texas to witness the 2024 Major League Baseball All-Star Game on July 16 or travel to Cleveland, Ohio for the 2024 Pan-American Masters Games (PAMG) from July 12-21.

The sports festival for athletes over 30 will draw thousands of athletes from all over the world who will compete in more than two dozen sports, including track and field, tennis, basketball, pickleball and cycling. Fans can book a stay at the recently revamped Hotel Cleveland to ensure a memorable trip.

Where to Travel for Other Events

The Republican National Convention will take over Milwaukee, Wisconsin from July 15-18 and the travel industry is already anticipating significant demand for travel to the Midwest city, with United Airlines adding dozens of more flights.

Visitors to Milwaukee can also catch the final days of Summerfest this July. The world’s largest music festival wraps up July 4-6 with live performances by AJR, Maroon 5, Lil Uzi Vert and more.

Travelers can also head to the Great Western Catskills of Delaware County, New York to experience a plethora of events and festivals this July, including the free Stagecoach Run Art Festival from July 6-7, the month-long Honest Brook Music Festival kicking off July 13, the Deposit Lumberjack Festival from July 19-21 and the Catskill Mountain Yoga Festival on July 27.

Where to Travel for Adventure

Head to Cape Town, South Africa for extraordinary whale-watching opportunities this July. Visitors can watch Southern Right or Humpback whales in the wild as they migrate from Antarctica. Villa One at Ellerman House is the perfect base camp as its able to accommodate large families and groups.

Domestically, Telluride, Colorado is ideal for outdoor adventure this July. The charming mountain town offers hiking, biking, horseback riding, fly fishing and other activities allowing visitors to make the most of its splendid scenery.

After you’ve had your fill of this region’s gorgeous nature, the Dunton Town House bed and breakfast is the perfect place to unwind. Plan your getaway for July 19-20 and you can even experience the Telluride Americana Music Festival.
