In an update that will thrill K-Pop fans around the globe, BTS’ Jin has officially completed his national service.
The singer was discharged on Wednesday after serving in the South Korean military for 18 months.
All able-bodied male citizens of the East Asian country aged between 18 and 35 are required to serve for 18 to 21 months, depending on the military branch.
He was greeted at the gate by fellow BTS stars J-Hope, Jimin and RM. At 31 years old, Jin is the oldest member of the boy band, with the other six members yet to finish their national service.
BTS announced they were going on hiatus in October 2022 to serve, and by December 2023 each member of the band had officially enrolled. The band’s record label Hybe has set mid-2025 as a tentative reunion date for the group.

Also 31 years old, SUGA began his national service in September. The rapper is working as a social service agent, making him the only BTS member not to serve active duty.
The K-Pop sensation injured his shoulder in an accident in 2012, with social service personnel usually exempt from active duty due to reasons such as health, financial or family difficulties.
Social service personnel care primarily care for elderly and disabled citizens and serve for an average of two years, meaning SUGA will likely be finished with his national service in September 2025.
The 30-year-old—whose real name is Jung Ho-seok—began his military service in April 2023.
According to Korean news service Yonhap, the singer-songwriter is serving as an assistant instructor of the 36th Homeland Defense Infantry Division. Based in Wonju, the division focuses on defending South Korea’s Gangwon Province during peacetime.
In a post to the South Korean social network WeVerse in October, J-Hope updated fans on his progress. The rapper said he’d achieved “special warrior” designation, a title that only a small number of military personnel earn. He will likely be discharged between October 2024 and January 2025.
The youngest member of BTS, 26-year-old Jungkook started his national service in December. However, the singer and dancer—whose full name is Jeon Jung-kook—managed to fit in collaborations with Justin Timberlake and Usher before beginning to serve in the South Korean Army’s 5th Infantry Division.
The frontline division protects the guard posts on the border of North and South Korea, with Jung-kook located in Yeoncheon County in the Gyeonggi Province. Jungkook is scheduled for discharge between June and September 2025.
In a statement announcing the remaining band members’ enrollment in December, Hybe confirmed that 28-year-old Jimin would be serving in the same division as Jungkook.
The pair will likely complete their training around the same time and could be discharged as early as June 2025.
RM—real name Kim Nam-joon—shared an Instagram update with fans on his national service on Tuesday. The 29-year-old enrolled in December 2023, and according to the post, will be discharged on June 10, 2025.
The rapper is currently serving in the 15th division, which protects guard posts in the Hwacheon and Cheorwon counties.
The 28-year-old enlisted in the Special Task Force of the South Korean Army’s Capital Defense Command in December.
The singer, who was born Kim Tae-hyung, reported for training at the Nonsan Training Center in the South Chungcheong Province, with the division involved in high-stake missions, such as hostage situations, counter-terrorism operations, and protecting the country’s public figures and VIPs.
Like RM, Jimin and Jungkook, V will likely be discharged around June 2025.
