‘Wheel of Fortune’ contestant reveals Pat Sajak’s off-camera reaction after viral NSFW answer
A good sport.
“Wheel of Fortune” contestant Tavaris Williams spoke out after going viral for his shocking NSFW answer on the show.
On the May 23 episode of the game show, Williams incorrectly guessed “right up the butt” while trying to solve a phrase puzzle, leading to wild reactions from the other contestants, host Pat Sajak — and the internet.
But when he appeared on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” Wednesday, Williams was in good spirits about his viral snafu.
“Pat was the best — he made me feel so great about that at the break,” Williams explained of Sajak, 77.
“He said, ‘You know, we’ll find a tactful way of editing it. I don’t know how, but we’ll do it.’ “
Despite Sajak’s promise, the incident aired as it played out when the episode was filmed at the beginning of April.
Williams, who was dared by his children to apply for the show, told Jimmy Kimmel that he warned his wife about what she’d witness on television.
“I told my wife immediately after: ‘I will keep everything a secret except this — this you have to know about. They said they might edit it, but I don’t know what it’s going to look like,’ ” he explained.
“And then it was out of sight, out of mind until the world reminded me of what I said,” Williams added.
Kimmel, 56, then asked Williams if he’s ever said that NSFW phrase before in his life.
“I have never used those words in sequential order a day in my life, Jimmy,” Williams said.
To continue poking fun at the situation, Kimmel decided to challenge Williams with another puzzle.
The phrase, “ALL HANDS ON D_CK,” popped up on the screen, and Kimmel jokingly told Williams he was giving him “11 minutes” to solve it.
“You’re the worst, Jimmy,” Williams said as he told the comedian the correct answer: “All hands on deck.”
Fans mocked Williams online when he delivered his X-rated guess on the game show.
“Parts of the four word phrase, ‘_ _ _ _ _N T_E _ _ _T!’” was on the screen when Williams buzzed in with his answer, “right in the butt?” which was obviously wrong.
As the crowd laughed at Williams’ mistake, the other contestants and Sajak tried to compose themselves.
Contestant Blake solved for the correct answer: “This is the best!”
Despite the major mix-up, Williams confirmed on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” that he actually walked away with $95,000 from the show.
“That’s what most people will never know,” Williams said about his winnings. “They just see the clip.”
