Summer is officially here, and many around the country are already planning how they want to enjoy the warm weather, from long days spent soaking up the sun to cozy nights listening to crickets chirp and cicadas sing while surrounded by family and friends.
Cosmopolitan knows just how much people enjoy traveling in the summer months and seeing more of the beauty that America has to offer so it compiled a list of the 15 “most underrated summer travel destinations” around the country, “inexpensive spots with fascinating backstories and vibey hangouts just waiting to be discovered.”
Among the list of gorgeous state parks in the Northeast to winding highways along the West Coast is one spot in Washington: San Juan Islands. Here’s what the site had to say:
“Most summer days are in the 70s on the three main islands that make up the San Juan Islands — aka San Juan Island, Orcas Island, and Lopez Island — and each are served by a ferry. Hop it to get to the lavender fields, fun bars, and historic lighthouses that give the area a definite Hamptons vibe. If that’s your vibe, you’ll love slurping down local wines (pick up a few bottles or cans from Cin Cin) and fresh oysters during the midday picnics at Wescott Bay Shellfish Co. I recommend booking a stay at the Friday Harbor House hotel, where you’ll want to have a cocktail in both hands while you hang out by the firepits. You can arrive there by boat, car, or float plane (but, um, please pick the float plane).”
