Vizag will be financial capital, says Chandrababu Naidu

Telugu Desam Party president and chief minister-designate of Andhra Pradesh N Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday reiterated that Amaravati would the capital of Andhra Pradesh and the three-capital would be given a burial.

Addressing the newly-elected MLAs of the National Democratic Alliance, who elected him as the leader of the legislature party in the state assembly at a meeting held at A-Convention Centre in Vijayawada, Naidu said: “Amaravati was our capital and will remain our capital.”

He, however, said his government would develop Visakhapatnam as the financial capital of Andhra Pradesh.

“Let us develop Visakhapatnam as an economic capital of Andhra and a modern city. At the same time, we shall also develop Kurnool on all fronts,” he said.

Stating that the people had not given their consent for the three capitals plan, the TDP chief recalled that Jagan would settle down in Visakhapatnam and would take oath as the chief minister in the port city.

“But the people of Visakhapatnam displayed a lot of wisdom. They rejected Jagan saying they don’t need him or his capital plan,” he said.

Earlier, Naidu was unanimously elected as the leader of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) legislature party in Andhra Pradesh at a meeting of the newly-elected MLAs of the three parties in the alliance – TDP, Jana Sena Party and the Bharatiya Janata Party.

Jana Sena Party chief and Pithapuram MLA K Pawan Kalyan proposed the name of Naidu as the leader of NDA partners in the state assembly and the chief ministerial candidate of the alliance. It was unanimously endorsed by the MLAs of all the three parties by thumping of the desks.

On behalf of the BJP, its state president and newly-elected MP from Rajahmundry Daggubati Purandeshwari attended the NDA meeting.

Earlier, Naidu was formally elected as the leader of the TDP legislature party by his party MLAs.
