Visalia Industrial Park job fair draws hundreds

Last week’s Visalia Industrial Park job fair drew 569 participants seeking jobs, says Bruce Nicotero who heads up the Visalia Economic Development Corp.

“I think we have developed a reputation for holding a good event for both employers and employees,” he said. “Word has spread considering last year’s June  job fair event drew only 125 job seekers.”

This year the June 26 fair was co-sponsored by the Visalia EDC, the Tulare County Workforce Investment Board and the Employment Connection.

In the past year three industrial park job fares have attracted more than 1,500 participants.

Nicotero says he believes job seekers include both those out of work and others with jobs who would like a new opportunity to earn more.

Helping to spread the word is the media attention to the rapid growth of big companies like Amazon that have recently located here.

Encouraging for employers is the strong work ethic employees have, says Nicotero. The younger profile of the workforce as well as education and training available geared to what companies need through College of the Sequoias for example coordinated by agencies like the Employment Connection.
