VIDEO: Truck chief Chris Showalter brought to tears after Nick Sanchez wins at Charlotte
Throughout his career, which spans the entire NASCAR Truck Series’ existence, Chris Showalter has won a lot of races. His 700th race in the series might be his favorite among them all, though.
Nick Sanchez won the Craftsman Truck Series race at Charlotte tonight over a hard-charging Corey Heim. Chris Showalter has been a competitor in every Truck Series race there has ever been. He has worked with Kyle Busch and some of the greatest in the history of the sport.
However, tonight was special. Showalter was brought to tears. A man who won a championship all the way back in 2003 with Travis Kvapil (his son Carson appears to be doing fine) was brought to tears by tonight’s regular season victory.
Passion, dedication, and relief above everything else. What a night for Showalter and the No. 2 Rev Racing team.
“I just probably popped to number one but it’s a long battle you know,” Showalter said, already tearing up. “It’s about people and I love this group of people you know, I’ll do anything for this group of people. Thank you.”
There are so many people who make the NASCAR world go round. Chris Showalter is one of those people. He is woven into the fabric of the sport. Tonight’s win was clearly moving for the truck chief and he expressed that in a powerful, but short interview.
Nick Sanchez wins on Chris Showalter’s birthday
Also, I should mention, it is apparently Showalter’s birthday as well. Nick Sanchez won the race and after a great battle with Corey Heim, dedicated the win to his truck chief.
“This is for Chris Showalter, my car chief. Birthday today, 700th truck start, so this is for him and it’s great to get number two,” Sanchez said after the race.
A win at Daytona to start the year and now one at Charlotte in the middle of the season. This team is hoping that they can win at Phoenix to end the season and the Truck Series championship.
Nick Sanchez is just starting to come into his own. With two wins this season, this team should be feeling very comfortable. They are going to be in the playoffs and will expect to make a deep run. Sanchez could be up for a promotion to the Xfinity Series depending on what rides are available at that level in 2025.
Are you believing in Sanchez and Showalter and this whole team? They are making a great case that they are one of the top four teams in the series.
