Two cars stolen from Planet Fitness in Edwardsville, police say

Two vehicles were reported stolen from Planet Fitness in Edwardsville on July 14, police said.

Edwardsville Police responded to the Planet Fitness Gym, located at 6483 Center Grove Road, at approximately 9:14 p.m. July 14, in reference to some locker thefts.

According to Edwardsville Police Chief Michael Fillback, several lockers were accessed and keys or keyfobs discovered, which resulted in two vehicles being stolen from the gym parking lot. While Fillback declined to get into specifics on how the lockers were accessed, he did say some were secured while others were not.

The thefts are believed to have taken place shortly before the police were contacted. The following vehicles were reported stolen:    

Fillback added that similar incidents took place in O’Fallon and Fairview Heights. In cooperation with those police departments, the suspects have been identified as 15- and 16-year-old juveniles out of St. Louis, Fillback said.

“We will work with the Madison County State’s Attorney to file charges against those involved,” he said. “As always, we encourage citizens to secure their valuables and report any suspicious activity as soon as they witness it.”
