Tire Safety Week: Tips before you travel for July 4th

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) — National Tire Safety Week is observed manually by the U.S. Tire Manufacturers Association, and this year it runs from June 21 to July 3.

That means there is still time to consider maintenance before your road trip to see family and fireworks.


“If you are traveling, definitely get your tires checked and inspected you want to make sure air pressure is proper,” said Vedran Duras, manager at the Discount Tire on Industrial Road. “If you’re taking a trip or traveling, you want to make sure your tires are safe to get you from point A to point B and back home safely.”

Getting tires inspected is all about making sure your tread depth and air pressure are up to snuff before the rubber hits the road.

Keeping those things in check is vital because there are a lot of factors outside the driver’s control.

“Bumps, cracks anything in the road can affect you possibly having tire issues or even failure,” Duras said.
