Rangers 13, Rays 2

  • That’s a sweep.
  • That game felt like watching the 2023 Texas Rangers again, for the first time in a while. Strong Nathan Eovaldi outing. A bunch of hits. A bunch of runs. Some home runs.
  • That game was a reminder of what this team is capable of.
  • Eovaldi had his repertoire working. 88 pitches to go seven innings. 16 swings and misses, 8 of them on his splitter. Just five Ks, no walks, not a ton of loud contact. The one blemish was a poorly located 1-2 fastball to Jose Caballero that was tattooed out of the park, though that just gave us the excitement of the Rangers being able to come back from behind to win the game.
  • I sure hope we keep seeing Nathan Eovaldi pitch for the Rangers for another three ml this, and then some.
  • Every Ranger starter had a hit except for Marcus Semien, who got on via a walk. The Rangers scored runs in the first, fourth, fifth, six, seventh and eighth innings.
  • Jonah Heim, who has been struggling at the plate all year, was 4 for 5 with a double and a homer. His single in the fourth tied up the game.
  • Wyatt Langford, who has had an up and down rookie year, was 4 for 5. His first inning RBI double started the scoring for the Rangers. His leadoff singles in the fourth and in the fifth started multi-inning rallies.
  • Corey Seager, who struggled to get going this season and wasn’t named to the All a Star Game despite being Corey Fucking Seager, had a double in the first that led to him scoring on the Langford double, and then had the most momentum shifting play in baseball in the fourth, a bomb that took the game from close Rangers lead to big Rangers lead.
  • Travis Jankowski, who has been brutal offensively of late, had a pair of hits, including a single in the fourth to give the Rangers the lead.
  • Robbie Grossman, who has played so seldom due to a lack of opposing lefty starters that I forgot he was on the team, homered.
  • Leody Taveras, who is Leody Taveras, was 3 for 5, continuing his recent hot streak.
  • It was fun, everyone participated, and it capped off a series sweep at home against the Rays.
  • This game made me happy.
  • Nathan Eovaldi topped out at 97.6 mph with his fastball, averaging 95.4 mph. Grant Anderson reached 93.6 mph with his sinker.
  • Corey Seager had a 111.6 mph double and a 102.6 mph home run. Nathaniel Lowe had a 108.9 mph single. Wyatt Langford had a 105.9 mph single and a 103.3 mph single Jonah Heim had a 104.5 mph single, a 104.4 mph line out, a 103.5 mph double, and a 102.8 mph home run.
  • This looked like the team we were hoping to see this year. Keeping it up this coming week, in the six game road trip heading into the All Star Break, would be a beautiful thing.
