The slow burn to CM Punk vs. Seth Rollins continues

When CM Punk first returned to WWE, it made all the sense in the world to go right into a program with Seth Rollins, the then world heavyweight champion. WrestleMania 40 was a few months away, and Punk’s electric return at Survivor Series gave them the perfect amount of time to build to what would inevitably be a classic.

And then Punk tore his triceps.

That meant everything had to change and before we knew it, Punk and Drew McIntyre were involved in a straight up blood feud and Rollins went off to take care of other business, like being an integral part of Cody Rhodes finishing his story in one of the greatest main events in the history of WrestleMania (at least in this writer’s humble opinion).

Even while out injured, Punk has come around time and again to keep his feud with McIntyre not even simmering but downright cooking with fire. We will eventually get a big money match.

But there’s still that other big money match with Rollins, and they’ve finally come back around to acknowledging the issues between the two are still there. We’re just going to get a slower burn on it.

Every interaction between these two feels intense because they expertly straddle that line between reality and kayfabe, or at least make you think that’s what they’re doing, which accomplishes the same thing.

I can’t wait for them to finally get around to throwing hands proper.
