‘The Boys’ to End With Season 5 at Amazon

The Boys will have their final fight in the near future.

Eric Kripke, the showrunner of Prime Video‘s super(anti)hero series, said on social media Tuesday that the show’s fifth season — which the streamer ordered in May — will be its last.

“Season 4 premiere week is a good time to announce: Season 5 will be the final season!” Kripke wrote on X. “Always my plan, I just had to be cagey till I got the final OK from Vought. Thrilled to bring the story to a gory, epic, moist climax.”

Kripke’s post is accompanied by a script page purportedly from the season four finale — everything is redacted save for a “fade in” camera direction at the top of the page and the following message from the writer: “See you for our final season, motherfuckers!”

The announcement of the show’s end comes two days before the season four premiere of The Boys on June 13.

The Boys has been one of Prime Video’s more successful original series: It regularly makes Nielsen’s streaming top 10 when new episodes are running, and it has spawned a spinoff, Gen V, and an animated anthology set in the same world called Diabolical. Because of that, Kripke told The Hollywood Reporter recently, The Boys‘ budget hasn’t taken too large a hit as media companies cut back.

“We’ve been lucky in that The Boys has become one of their flagships. We get a level of freedom that it’ll be hard to repeat anywhere,” said Kripke, THR’s TV Producer of the Year. “That said, we have budget battles. But, ultimately, we figure out a way. We made Gen V for a lot less money, and there’s a target that we have to hit on that show — whether we like it or not. There’s a couple of things in development. You have to pre-negotiate the budgets, and those budgets are a lot tighter than what we’ve had in the past. So, we’re feeling it.”

Sony Pictures Television produces The Boys with Amazon MGM Studios, Kripke Enterprises, Original Film and Point Grey Pictures.
