Street Fighter 6 Director Takayuki Nakayama expects fans to be incredibly surprised by the Season 2 roster
Akuma was released alongside the Season 2 update for Street Fighter 6 just a couple of weeks ago. Needless to say, it’s time to start talking about the Season 2 roster.
As of right now, next to nothing is known about the DLC characters that are slated to be released after Rashid, A.K.I., Ed, and Akuma. Though Director Takayuki Nakayama and the rest of the development team have remained pretty tight lipped about Season 2, Nakayama has been teasing small tidbits of information.
Recently, Takayuki Nakayama sat down for an interview with Famitsu. The entire interview is in Japanese, so we had our very own Nicholas ‘MajinTenshinhan’ Taylor provide translations.
“I’m sure that when you see them, you will be surprised enough to go ‘HUUH?! What are you doing?!'” — Takayuki Nakayama
At the very end of the interview, Famitsu asked Nakayama how he was feeling going into the second year for Street Fighter 6. Of course, the topic on everyone’s minds right now is the Season 2 roster.
“Finally, give me your thoughts going into the game’s second year,” stated Famitsu.
“Thank you for continuing to play throughout this year, games are meant to be played, so we will work our hardest to keep developing the game so that you can keep having as much fun as possible,” responded Nakayama.
“For now, we’ll be avoiding any reveals on the Year 2 characters, but please look forward to the official reveal,” continued Nakayama. “I’m sure that when you see them, you will be surprised enough to go ‘HUUH?! What are you doing?!'”
Notably, Nakayama recently said something similar in an interview with Game Informer. More specifically, he stated that Season 2 will feature some unexpected characters.
“Of course, I can’t make any specific comments yet, but I think you will find there to be some unexpected characters,” said Nakayama back then. It’s worth mentioning that Nakayama wasn’t even willing to speak about the method in which characters are selected.
However, it feels like Nakayama’s comments to Famitsu are going a bit further compared to what he told Game Informer. Not only are these characters going to be unexpected, but it also sounds as though their reveals will be both surprising and confusing to fans.
Notably, the logos for the Year 2 Character Pass and Year 2 Ultimate Pass were seemingly leaked, though they looked pretty much identical to the Year 1 Character Pass and Year 1 Ultimate Pass logos.
Still, the fact that these are hidden away inside Street Fighter 6’s code suggests that Capcom could be preparing for a big announcement relatively soon. Perhaps us Street Fighter 6 fans will be in store for some fun surprises during this week’s Summer Game Fest 2024 presentation.
