Start Preparing for Transition to New Travel System, GSA Tells Agencies

Federal agencies should start taking steps now—if they haven’t already—for an upcoming transition to a new travel and expense management system to be called ETSNext, even though the transition is still three years away.

A May 22 Federal Register notice calls attention to a recent GSA bulletin designed “bring awareness to all critical agency leadership and program offices so that preparation and action takes place to ensure the ETSNext transition happens on a timely, well planned basis.”

It says that by June 28, “all agencies with mandatory users should execute a memorandum of understanding with GSA that will describe the intentions, roles, and responsibilities of GSA and each customer agency to accomplish full deployment of ETSNext.”

“The current ETS2 master contracts expire on June 3, 2027, thus agencies will need to adopt ETSNext during the upcoming transition period, but no later than February 2027,” the bulletin says. “Agencies should immediately prepare for transition from ETS2 to ETSNext. All agencies with mandatory users should engage with GSA, if they have not already done so, to determine budgets and timelines for transition to ETSNext.”

It says that agencies should take steps including engaging with GSA to determine budgets and timelines; preparing for and prioritizing financial management systems integration with ETSNext; and more.
