Sofia Richie Gave Her Baby a ‘Quiet Luxury’ Name & the Peanut Gallery Has a Lot To Say
That’s right, folks! Sofia Richie and Elliot Grainge just welcomed their first child together. A sweet baby girl whose name is already being dissected by the peanut gallery. And why are we not surprised? Baby names can be such a divisive topic. And given that the only photo Richie shared was of her and her husband holding their newborn’s feet, there wasn’t much to latch onto other than her name.
“Eloise Samantha Grainge 🤍5•20•24 best day of my life🤍,” Richie captioned her post.

Eloise Samantha. It’s one of those “quiet luxury” baby names. You know, one that hints at (or reeks of) old money prestige. Actress Ashley Tisdale was a huge fan saying, “Omg the sweetest name!!” Other followers agreed: “What a princess name❤️” “This is the best name ever.”
“Samantha is the best name ever,” a follower named Sam (likely) joked. Oof. So Richie and Grainge almost had things perfect. If only they had gone for “Samantha Eloise” instead.
“Such a bridgerton name ahhh congrats 😍❤️,” one person said. And I guess it depends on how you feel about Bridgerton or Eloise at the Plaza or other iconic books, movies, and TV shows with characters named Eloise to know if “such a bridgerton name” is a good thing or bad thing.
Overall, the feedback was positive, but some people loved it for an eye-roll-worthy reason: “Thank you for naming your beautiful baby girl a normal name!”
It’s such a rude dig at celebrities (or us mere peasants) who go for less common or out-of-the-box baby names. But more than 1.4 thousand people agreed with that follower, liking the comment or “seconding” it in the replies.
Multiple others were upset about how this choice would impact them. “Eloise was on my baby name list now i gotta cross it off damn 🙄.” What?!?! Reminder: You can’t call dibs on baby names and more than one baby can (AND OFTEN DO) have the same name. As earlier commenters said, this is the “best name ever.” So go for it!
So what does the “best name ever” mean? The name Eloise has French, German, Teutonic, and American origins and means “famous in war.” And Samantha has Aramaic, Hebrew, and American origins and tends to mean “listener.” As for what it personally means to Richie and Grainge, we’ll have to wait and hear!
Congratulations to the new parents! And welcome, little Eloise Samantha.
From Camden to Corinne, here are a few “Old Money”-inspired baby names for your little one.
