Smael Mondon, Bo Hughley arrested in latest Georgia football traffic gaffe
Georgia Football players Smael Mondon Jr. and Bo Hughley were arrested earlier this week for separate traffic-related charges, the Athens-Clarke County Sheriff’s Office confirmed via Online Athens.
Hughley was arrested by University of Georgia police, while Mondon was booked for racing on highways/streets by non-University law enforcement.
Hughley, 19, was arrested due to a failure to maintain lane/improper driving on the road and reckless driving on Tuesday night.
Mondon, 21, was booked for reckless driving and racing on Wednesday; both were released on $26 bond.
This is just the most recent of many driving-related arrests involving Bulldogs players, which previously included Florida transfer and projected starting running back Trevor Etienne.
Etienne was said to have drank three beers and was charged with a DUI but entered into a plea agreement that dismissed that part of the charges, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constituion.
Georgia’s driving-related arrests have now grown to four this offseason.
Their star defensive lineman, Jalen Carter, was involved in a fatal crash on Jan. 15, 2023 that killed Devin Willock of Paramus, NJ.
Carter turned himself in March after he was charged with reckless driving.
He denied racing after the incident and later entered a plea deal.
The long list of issues with Georgia players’ driving habits has spiraled as the total number of automobile incidents has grown to 20.
The latest problem for Georgia could be costly, as Mondon looked poised to start for the squad.
He ranked second on the team in tackles last season and earned second-team All-SEC honors.
Hughley signed with the Bulldogs in 2023 as one of the top offensive tackle prospects in his class, although he missed most of Georgia’s spring practice with an injury after redshirting his freshman season.
