Seahawks to Travel to The Bahamas in Late July – UNC Wilmington Athletics

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – The UNCW men’s basketball program will embark on a six-day, five-night Foreign Tour and team bonding trip to The Bahamas in late July.

The Seahawks are scheduled to depart on Friday, July 26, for Nassau and return on Wednesday, July 31.

“I want to thank [Director of Athletics] Michael Oblinger and our donors for providing us with this great opportunity,” said UNCW Head Coach Takayo Siddle. “With so many new players, trips like this become extremely important for our program. We will spend a lot of time together not only on the court getting better, but off the court growing our team chemistry and individual character.”

While abroad, UNCW will play two local Bahamian teams at the Kendal GL Isaacs Gym as well as participate in team-building activities around the island. The UNCW players and staff will also spend a day at the Bahamas Children’s Emergency Hostel, a children’s orphanage, in Nassau.

NCAA rules allow college basketball programs to take a foreign tour every four years where teams can play exhibition games abroad against international competition.

In previous foreign tours, UNCW visited Italy in 2019 and the Bahamas in 2011 and 2015. The Seahawks also toured France in 1994.
