SBSD receives ,000 grant for new fitness building

SOUTH BEND – The South Bend School District is thrilled to announce that it has received a generous $54,000 grant from the South Bend School Foundation. This grant will be used to purchase state-of-the-art exercise equipment for the newly completed fitness building, providing its students with an excellent facility to support their physical fitness and well-being.

The grant was presented by the South Bend School Foundation, with board members Mike Morris, Kelly Johnson, Bunny Williams, Todd Strozyk and Emma Rose playing a pivotal role in securing the funds. “Their dedication to enhancing the educational and extracurricular opportunities for our students is deeply appreciated,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Jon Tienharra.

“The South Bend School Foundation’s commitment to our district is truly remarkable,” Tienhaara added. “This grant will have a significant impact on our students by providing them with a modern and well-equipped space to engage in physical fitness activities. We are grateful for the foundation’s continued support and investment in our students’ health and wellness.”

The fitness building, which was completed this spring, was almost entirely funded through various grants. This new facility will address the growing need for dedicated space for physical fitness programs, benefiting all students within the district.

“Our new fitness building represents a major step forward in promoting the physical health of our students,” Tienhaara said. “With the addition of this equipment, we are ensuring that our students have access to the resources they need to develop lifelong healthy habits. The support from the South Bend School Foundation has been instrumental in making this vision a reality.”

Dr. Tienhaara added, “The South Bend School District extends its heartfelt thanks to the South Bend School Foundation and its board members for their unwavering support and commitment to our students’ success. We look forward to seeing the positive impact this new fitness building will have on our community.”
