Samsung might surprise users with Galaxy Ring’s pricing

Samsung is expected to launch at least four wearable devices in the second half of this year: Galaxy Ring, Galaxy Watch FE, Galaxy Watch 7, and Galaxy Watch 7 Ultra. Two of these could be premium devices, and Samsung hinted about them already in its earnings call. Now, some information about the Galaxy Ring’s pricing has emerged.

According to that information, potential Galaxy Ring buyers might be in for a scary surprise.

Galaxy Ring could cost more than Galaxy Watch 7

According to tipster Yogesh Brar, the Galaxy Ring could cost around $300-$350 in the US. That’s pricier than the Galaxy Watch 6 44mm LTE variant and likely costlier than the upcoming Galaxy Watch 7. However, this rumored pricing is in the same ballpark as the Oura Ring, the most popular smart ring right now.

Samsung unveiled the Galaxy Ring earlier this year alongside the Galaxy S24. However, the company didn’t put it up for purchase, and it is expected to go on sale later this year. This smart ring has a built-in accelerometer, heart rate sensor, and gyro sensor to measure your activities, heart rate, and sleep. It is very compact and doesn’t have a screen, which makes it great for sleep tracking.

However, the Galaxy Ring most likely doesn’t feature built-in GPS, which makes it ineffective for tracking outdoor activities and workouts. So, if the rumored information turns out to be accurate, the higher price of the Galaxy Ring might put off a lot of users, and people might prefer buying a full-fledged Galaxy Watch instead.

Author’s Note: A price higher than the Galaxy Watch 6 or the Galaxy Watch 7 is harder to digest. This is because the Galaxy Watch 6 can perform all the activity and sleep-tracking features of the Galaxy Ring. On top of that, it has GPS and can measure body fat composition. It can display notifications from a paired smartphone and function as a speakerphone. It even has full-fledged apps and a voice assistant.

It isn’t unusual for a first-generation product to have a premium price tag, and over the years, the price drops as manufacturing technology gets more accessible. So, Samsung might drop the pricing of the Galaxy Ring in the coming generations. However, unless someone wants a no-screen device that can be comfortably worn, the pricing of the Galaxy Ring appears on the higher side.
