Ross distribution center coming to Randolph County, bringing over 850 jobs
RANDLEMAN, N.C. — More jobs are coming to the Piedmont Triad!
In a press release on Tuesday, Governor Roy Cooper announced that retail giant Ross had selected Randolph County as the place to build a 330-acre site for their new distribution center. It will be the retailers ninth distribution center.
Ross Stores is the latest company to make its way to the Triad, and it’s one that Randleman Mayor Gary Betts said is a win for the community.
“I see this as a way of sustaining the way of life that we’re accustomed to here and what we enjoy about the small town, small city way of life,” he said.
According to the press release, the retailer will invest $450 million over the next five years to build the distribution center.
That investment will help leaders keep the county and city thriving.
“It will help sustain the taxes, the revenue. It will help sustain the fire department, the police department, our public works,” Betts said.
The new site will be located just off I-73 and U.S. Hwy 311, near Wall Brothers Road in Randleman.
Give it a couple years, and it will be site of a 1.7 million square foot warehouse that will employ at least 852 people.
It’s a welcome addition for the city, as several businesses – including Klaussner Home Furnishings – have closed in the area in recent years.
“I think Klaussner lost 900 jobs; this is [bringing] 840,” Betts said. “Those are the things you have to stay on top of to make sure that you got somewhere for the people that are here to go.”
Betts said they believe it will bring a wide range of benefits.
“It will bring more local business, more retail business to the area,” Betts remarked. “And hopefully nicer restaurants, some of the stores that we travel to go to now will be looking here hopefully. Maybe even hotels in the future.”
The warehouse is not expected to open until 2028, but contractors are expected to start moving dirt within the next six months to a year.
Estimates have this new facility’s business impact at over $39 million a year for the county.
