Richard Dreyfuss sparks mass walkout with ‘transphobic rant’ at screening
A theatre in Massachusetts has apologised for “distressing and offensive” remarks made by Richard Dreyfuss that triggered a mass walkout before a screening of Jaws.
Dreyfuss, 76, appeared at The Cabot in the town of Beverly on Saturday for what was billed as “an intimate evening” with the Oscar-winning actor.
The screening was scheduled to follow a talk by Dreyfuss, whose other films include American Graffiti and The Goodbye Girl, about his 40-year career in Hollywood.
However, according to guests who attended the event, Dreyfuss walked on to the stage wearing a dress and began making offensive comments about the LGBT community.
Dreyfuss walked on stage wearing a dress before making comments that were described by audience members as transphobic and misogynistic
Representatives for the actor have been contacted for comment.
