Rhodes vs. Styles title match at Clash at the Castle gets a special stipulation
When AJ Styles did his best Mark Henry impression and faked retirement before launching a beatdown on WWE Champion Cody Rhodes on Friday Night SmackDown last week, it was clear where we were headed. Sure enough, just like Henry found himself challenging John Cena for the title all those years ago, Styles was booked into a match against Rhodes for his WWE championship.
But this one will have a special stipulation.
Indeed, on SmackDown this week, a pissed off Rhodes demanded Styles face him in the ring. The antagonist played it smart, insisting he get what he wants out of the deal, which is another shot at the title. Cody was more than willing to grant that wish, but he wanted to spice things up in a way that fits the story too well.
An I Quit match.
SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis, already on scene trying to keep the peace, loved the idea enough to give it a thumbs up right then and there.
So it’s on for Clash at the Castle, scheduled for Sat., June 15, 2024, in Glasgow, Scotland.
Here’s the updated card:
- WWE Championship I Quit Match: Cody Rhodes (c) vs. AJ Styles
- World Heavyweight Championship: Damian Priest (c) vs. Drew McIntyre
