ReFresh Beach Shop brings treats, shopping to Caseville
Caseville will have new place to visit for a refreshing treat and shopping at Refresh Beach Shop and Frozen Yogurt.
Owner Lane Walker, his wife Brooke and children Gracy, Abby, Molly and Rece, have been getting the space ready for its Friday opening. Located in the middle of downtown, ReFresh Beach Shop is in the old bookstore that closed at the end of the 2022 season.
However, there will still be books available in the shop. Lane will be selling books he has published along with books from the publishing company he works with.
“Kids and reading is one of my passions,” Lane said. “I’ve had 19 books published and have won two book awards for my kids series.”
The shop will also feature apparel that fits the theme of Caseville. Lane said that his children and wife each designed shirts that will be sold in the shop along with other beach and related items.
“Part of the reason my wife and I wanted to raise our kids in the Thumb is because the people are loyal,” Lane said. “They love to see people succeed, and people have been super supportive.”
The shop will also have a rotating menu of yogurt flavors. They will have the usual flavors like chocolate and vanilla but will serve a fruit and candy-based option that rotates in and out.
Lane said that now that his oldest two are graduating, he and Brooke wanted to venture out and put together a business for the community.
“I’m a diehard Thumb resident,” Lane said. “I grew up in Kingston, I work as the principal of the Tech Center in Bad Axe. I love my job and I love the people and kids of the Thumb. I grew up going to Caseville, and my wife and I wanted to venture in something on our own to help celebrate how awesome Caseville is in the summer.”
The space also has a condo above the store, which Lane currently has listed on Airbnb as a two-bedroom and two-bathroom space.
Also, Lane was excited to say they’ve brought Bruce the Shark back to Caseville. A display featuring a great white shark, Bruce formerly adorned another Caseville business. Walker said he hired someone to refurbish it, bringing it back to life.
Lane added the reception to the business has been very positive, with his kids giving them a presence on social media through Facebook and TikTok. The Facebook page is still new but has over 800 followers and the TikToc announcement has over 10,000 views
“My one daughter is big into TikTok and social media,” Lane said. “It’s been a learning experience. It’s amazing the power it has and the people it can reach.”
Refresh Beach Shop and Frozen Yogurt will open at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 24 and is located at 6600 Main St. in Caseville. It can be found online on Facebook or on TikTok @refreshbeachshop.
“People can expect to be treated very friendly,” Lane said. “They are going to be greeted, smiled at and know that we’re happy to work and serve the people of Caseville and the Thumb. They will see that the culture of the building will be very positive and energetic and inviting.”
