‘Record-setting travel volume’: Fourth of July travel with lowest gas prices in years
TOPEKA, Kan. (KSNT) – Motorists may see lower gas prices on this Independence Day than in years past.
According to a news release from GasBuddy, the expected national average price of gas on the Fourth of July is $3.49 per gallon. This estimated price is the lowest holiday price since 2021.
GasBuddy said in the release the projected Fourth of July gas price this year is one penny lower than the price of gas on July 4, 2023.
“For those hitting the road to celebrate Independence Day, gas prices have seen modest recent fluctuations, but most states are seeing prices near or even well below where they were a year ago,” Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, said. “While the first half of the summer has been relatively smooth sailing, the road ahead may be bumpy. Activity in the tropics has increased, and projections remain for a very busy hurricane season. Even after the holiday fireworks are over, we’ll be watching for any potential fireworks at the pump that could be brought on by hurricanes disrupting refineries.”
With this projected gas price comes expected “record-setting travel volume” in the Sunflower State and across the United States.
As of June 27, Kansas gas prices are ranked the sixth lowest average gas prices in the nation. According to the AAA gas prices chart, Kansas’ average gas price is $3.11 per gallon, while the national average per gallon is $3.50.
According to a AAA spokesman, almost 690,000 Kansans will travel 50 miles or more for the Fourth of July holiday between July 29 through July 7.
