Pop singer-songwriter threatens to ‘bring down’ music industry in angry online rant
Bebe Rexha has apparently had it up to here with the music industry.
The 34-year-old singer-songwriter went on an angry rant on Twitter on Tuesday, claiming that she has been “silenced” and threatening to air some dirty laundry.
“I could bring down a BIG chunk of this industry. I AM frustrated. I Have been UNDERMINED. I’ve been so quiet for the longest time,” she wrote in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter. “I haven’t seen the signs even though people constantly are bringing them up and they have been SO OBVIOUS. And when I have spoken up I’ve been silence [sic] and PUNISHED by this industry. Things must change or I’m telling ALL of my truths. The good the bad and the ugly.”
Rexha did not list any specific incidents or issues, although when a fan mentioned her not initially being credited as a featured artist on the 2015 David Guetta, Nicki Minaj, and Afrojack single “Hey Mama,” she wrote, “My love. That? Compared to all the other stuff you don’t know about? That’s Child’s play.”
“This is not just coming from a place of anger,” she wrote in a follow-up post. “It’s sadness. I’m sitting in my hotel room in London Crying my eyes out. I’ve felt hopeless for the longest time. I’ve been walking a lot through this city and meeting fans and they have really ignited something inside of me.”
On June 3 she posted another update, thanking those who reached out and were concerned about her well-being.
“Thank you to everyone checking up on me. I’m working through these issues and fighting for what I deserve,” she wrote. “Many news outlets have asked for an interview. If you want to write about me please support my new music. Thank you again. Love you.”
Rexha had gone after her former collaborator G-Eazy on Instagram last month, calling him a “stuck-up ungrateful loser.” The post was later removed.
Rexha is best known for such songs as “In the Name of Love,” “Meant to Be” and “I’m Good (Blue).” Her latest single, “I’m the Drama,” was released on June 28.
