Parks and Rec to offer free adult fitness classes this summer

The St. Charles Parish Department of Parks and Recreation is thrilled to partner with the United Way of St. Charles and Anytime Fitness Destrehan to bring a free adult strength circuit workout class to the Edward A. Dufresne Community Center on Thursdays at 11 a.m. beginning June 13.

“We have been working to bring adult fitness programming to our slate of offerings, and we are grateful for the United Way of St. Charles for providing the funding to bring this program by Anytime Fitness to our residents free of charge,” Director Duane Foret said.

The Thursday classes will be one hour and are open to those of all fitness levels with a goal to build community through health and wellness. The program is scheduled for five sessions: June 13, June 27, July 11, July 18 and July 25.

“Exercise and good quality nutrition are vital in every stage of life but are even more important as we age,” Jenna Schexnaydre, Certified Personal Trainer, Nutrition Coach and Group Fitness Instructor at Anytime Fitness Destrehan said. “Regular exercise can help prevent diseases such as diabetes, osteoporosis, heart disease, some cancers, obesity and even help with mental illness. In addition to the health benefits, functional strength programs for adults can also help with overall quality of life, like getting up and down off the ground playing with grandchildren, carrying groceries or just simply bending down to put shoes on. Adults should be progressively overloading their muscles regularly to not only help prevent bone and muscle loss, but for longevity and an overall better quality of life.”

The mission of the St. Charles Parish Department of Parks and Recreation is to provide quality recreation programs, activities, parks and facilities that allow residents to enhance their quality of life.
