If you were given $800 in store credit at McKay’s, would you search for 800 $1 vinyls or blow most of your cash on a cello?

These are the kinds of questions now facing hundreds − maybe thousands? − of customers who participated in the store’s frenzied road trip.

No store has quite the selection of McKay’s, the used books and records store on Papermill Drive that also sells video games, clothes, collectibles, electronics, toys, CDs and DVDs.

The store is in the spotlight after it gave away an unthinkable amount of store credit during its 50th anniversary celebration event. The “Ultimate Road Trip” challenged fans to visit all five locations across Tennessee and North Carolina on July 9 to earn prizes.

On July 10, shoppers armed with credit flocked to the Knoxville store to buy some dream items. Here’s a glimpse into a plausible shopping list at the quirky warehouse.
