OhioMeansJobs will host the Lorain County Healthcare Market Place Job Fair on June 12.
It will take place from 1-4 p.m. at 42495 North Ridge Road in Elyria Township.
The health care field is one of the largest industries in the United States with 65.1 million workers in 2020, according to the National Library of Medicine.
OhioMeansJobs Business Services Coordinator Chris Durkin said that his organization is focusing heavily on health care this year to keep that number of professionals high.
“When Eddie (Hawkins, business account executive) and I created the calendar for this year for all of the job fairs we were going to have,” Durkin said. “The even months are just for health care.
“It’s every aspect of health care that you can imagine.”
The job fair will have representatives from local hospitals, ambulance companies, nursing associations and a variety of other health care fields, Durkin said.
The ability to keep in contact with Cleveland Clinic, University Hospitals, Mercy Health and other facilities allows the job fairs to become almost like a feeder system for the industry, Durkin said.
“We do our best to be (partnered), and we certainly have contacts there,” he said of the local hospital systems. “We try to provide them with all the opportunities to come and engage folks interested in the health care field or who already have experience in the health care field.”
Durkin noted the health care industry is going through an employment lull, and the shortage of health care workers is a serious issue in Northeast Ohio.
