Officials: Wednesday will be busiest holiday travel day this week

Wednesday is expected to be the busiest travel day of the Fourth of July holiday weekend with about 71 million people traveling.

Norwalk based Priceline says it will be the busiest Fourth in a while. They say the airports are getting busy, and the Transportation Security Administration is checking in about 3 million passengers at the airports.

Priceline says travel to metro destinations and beaches is popular.

“We have a lot of consumers telling us this year, ‘yes, we went to get away we want to sit on a beach we want to relax,” says Brigit Zimmerman, Priceline’s chief commercial officer.

Priceline says most people are expected to come back on Sunday or Monday.
