Northrop Grumman plant to bring more jobs to Waynesboro area

WAYNESBORO, Va. (WHSV) – Northrop Grumman has officially begun construction on a new manufacturing plant in Waynesboro that will bring nearly 300 jobs to the area.

Located along Shenandoah Village Drive just behind the Waynesboro Town Center, the 315,000-square-foot building will function as a cutting-edge advanced electronics manufacturing and testing facility that aims to help solve the toughest problems in space, aeronautics and global security. The addition of this plant will bring more jobs to Waynesboro and a significant economic impact to the surrounding areas.

“Certainly, the number of jobs is very beneficial to the area,” said Leslie Tate, director of community development for Waynesboro. “The ripple effect can then have other types of economic impact in the area.”

According to their website, Northrop Grumman has approximately 100,000 employees — over 6,800 in Virginia — and 550 facilities across all 50 U.S. states and in 25 countries across the world. The company anticipates construction of the Waynesboro plant to finish in 2025 and for production to begin in 2026.

The city of Waynesboro hopes to see an increase in high-salary jobs over the next few years as a direct result of the plant’s opening. The company is also expected to offer training for its employees through a partnership with various programs at Blue Ridge Community College.
