Nicole Kidman Confirms ‘Big Little Lies’ Season 3 Is in the Works — and Now, She’s Going to ‘Shut Up’ About Details
After rumors have swirled about “Big Little Lies” returning for a third season, actress/producer Nicole Kidman has confirmed that author Liane Moriarty is writing a new book for a new season to be based on.
During an interview with Vanity Fair alongside former co-star Reese Witherspoon, Kidman confirmed more “Big Little Lies” is in the works.
“Just you wait!” Kidman said during a Vanity Fair interview alongside former co-star Reese Witherspoon. “We’re moving fast and furious. And Liane is delivering the book. And we’re in good shape. So the rest is…We need to shut up because there’s this whole thing that you should never talk about something until you’ve done it. Because if you talk about doing it, it’s the dopamine hit of doing it. You feel like you’ve done it. It’s a scientific study.”
Both Kidman and Witherspoon reflected on what the latter called the “delirious” shoots for both seasons of the hit HBO show, which was originally conceived as a limited series.
“On ‘Big Little Lies,’ we were so delirious,” Witherspoon said. “Don’t you remember that I like, lost my cool and screamed?”
Kidman replied, “And then you came out and were amazing. And then you and Laura did that one night…legendary.”
There, Kidman was referencing the ad-libbing between Dern and Witherspoon for a scene in the second episode of the Emmy-winning show.
Witherspoon recalled to Kidman, “You can’t put Dern and I next to each other. We were like little kids in a classroom. You’re like, ‘Do we need to separate you two?’”
In fact, Witherspoon was worried about “Big Little Lies” finding the right audience due to its shifting tone. Kidman played it as the “most serious drama,” Dern saw it as a comedy.
“I was like, ‘This show is not going to work. It’s not going to work,’” Witherspoon said. “And it freaking worked.”
