NEW YORK CITY HIGH SCHOOL OF FASHION INDUSTRIES 36TH ANNUAL FASHION SHOW AND FUNDRAISER – MR Magazine
Every spring, the annual High School of Fashion Industries fashion show assures us that the future of our industry—at least here in New York City—is in good hands. This year, the 36th annual event was held in the open air at Gansevoort Plaza for a second time on Wednesday, May 29th, and presented in partnership with the Meatpacking District.
Brandice Daniel (at top, center), the founder of Harlem’s Fashion Row (and MR Award Honoree), was honored at the event and gave an inspiring speech, paying tribute to recently deceased HSFI Board Member J.J. Thomas, whose widow was a guest at the event. Thomas had a 43 year career at Bloomingdale’s where he was the retailer’s first Black buyer and the company’s first Black corporate operating vice president, overseeing diversity and community service. (The High School renamed its annual career fair in his honor earlier this year.)
As always, thank you to lifestyle commentator, HSFI advisor, booster, and all-around compadre Robert DiMauro (at top, right) for making the connections and gathering these beautiful photographs from the evening.
