Limaburg Road traffic has always been hectic, said Faithful Friends Pet Memory Center office assistant Lizzy Wehrman.
“The (semitrucks) are what scare me, because if they hit a small car … that’s my biggest fear,” she said.
Wehrman spends her days responding to emails and answering calls. She said she has seen dozens of accidents occur on the road since she started her job two years ago.
With many sharing her concerns, Boone County Fiscal Court Executive Judge Gary Moore and county engineer Robert Franxman said they knew changes would need to be made.
The court was awarded $2.9 million through the Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity program (RAISE) to improve and modernize existing infrastructure along the Limaburg Road corridor.
“For the most part, there aren’t any sidewalks now, so pedestrian safety as well as vehicular safety is a huge component,” Moore said.
“What that new connector road will do is ultimately separate the vast majority of truck traffic from the residential traffic,” Franxman added.
This grant will help fund the first of the five-phase project, but construction won’t begin for a couple of years.
Wehrman said she looks forward to the day when Limaburg Road is safer.
