The My Safe Florida Home Program will start offering grants once again beginning on Monday.

In April, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis signed Senate Bill 7028 which will allocate $200 million to the My Florida Safe Home Program, which offers matching grants of up to $10,000 to households that enhance their homes with hurricane-safe doors and windows or replace their roofs.

DeSantis claims these enhancements will lower insurance premiums and the bill will also prioritize seniors who are on the waiting list for needed upgrades to their homes.

Those changes include allowing applicants under the program to still receive inspections even if they’re not eligible for a mitigation grant.

The bill also would make additional changes by establishing new or updated requirements for homeowners under the program.

Interested homeowners would have to visit the website to receive a wind mitigation home inspection by a licensed inspector assigned to them by the program.

After the inspection is processed, a grant could be awarded in the amount of up to $10,000 to replace windows, doors, etc. with a contractor approved by the Department of Financial Services.

According to the website, the portal will re-open for homeowners on Monday, July 1.

Applications will be accepted and prioritized as follows:

• Low-income homeowners age 60+ – July 1 – July 15

• Low-income homeowners of any age – July 16 – 30

• Moderate-income homeowners age 60+ – July 31 – Aug. 14

• Moderate-income homeowners of any age – Aug. 15 – 30

• All other eligible Florida homeowners – Aug. 31
