Mississippi Highway Patrol Gears Up for Independence Day Travel Safety – Darkhorse Press
The Mississippi Highway Patrol (MHP) is set to ensure safety during the 2024 Independence Day Holiday Travel Period, starting Thursday, July 4th at 6:00 a.m. and ending Sunday, July 7th at midnight.
Commissioner Sean Tindell emphasizes the importance of prioritizing safety, thanking law enforcement and first responders for their service.
MHP will implement high-visibility patrols to promote safe travel and reduce fatal crashes. Troopers will monitor speeding, distracted driving, and conduct safety checkpoints to encourage seatbelt use and remove impaired drivers.
During the 2023 holiday period, MHP investigated 76 crashes with four fatalities, made 49 DUI arrests, and issued 508 citations for occupant restraint violations.
“The Independence Day holiday is a wonderful opportunity to gather with family and friends,” said Lt. Colonel James Ivory, Assistant Director of MHP. “We strive to provide vigilant and consistent protection, especially during busy holiday travel. Be safe and smart as you travel this long holiday weekend.”
