Miguel Sano burns self with heating pad in embarrassing Angels setback

The Los Angeles Angels season continues to get more dubious.

Infielder Miguel Sano, who isn’t playing as he continues to treat left knee inflammation, has experienced a setback in his rebab after apparently burning himself with a heat pack on his left knee when he left it on for too long, said Angels manager Ron Washington.

Sano hasn’t played since April 26, and it’s unclear when he’ll be healthy enough to make a return.

Washington said that the complications stemming from the injury may add a couple of days to the recovery timeline of the third baseman.

Sano has played 21 games this season, appearing at the plate on 71 occasions.

Sano has recorded one home run and five RBIs this season while hitting .262 and recording a .713 OPS.

The Dominican native originally made his debut in the majors during the 2015 season with the Minnesota Twins, finishing third in Rookie of the Year voting.

Sano made an All-Star team in 2017 and remained with the Twins through the 2022 season.

After losing Sunday to the Cleveland Guardians, 5-4, the Angels fell to 20-33 on the season.

The Angels already are without Mike Trout and Anthony Rendon, among others, for the foreseeable future.
