McIntyre fails Money in the Bank cash-in thanks to CM Punk, Priest retains world title
World Heavyweight Champion Damian Priest agreed to the stipulation that if he was unable to defeat Seth Rollins at tonight’s (Sat., July 6, 2024) Money in the Bank premium live event at the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, he would leave The Judgment Day. Meanwhile, Rollins claimed that if he lost he would never get to challenge for the title again, at least as long as Priest is holding it.
The match was solid for what it was, with Priest continually looking to the entranceway out of fear that Drew McIntyre would do what he promised and cash in the Money in the Bank contract on him. Sure enough, right as we got a near fall that looked like it should have been the finish — hard to say if it was a botch, considering — McIntyre’s music hit.
He cashed in to make it a triple threat match.
While he was trying to get the job done, none other than CM Punk showed up once again to screw him over, costing him the world championship once more. Punk took the title and laid him out with it, giving Priest the chance to pin McIntyre and retain his championship.
Priest was pissed off as he left.
Rollins was pissed off about Punk getting in his business, and the two had a brief staredown that Corey Graves prevented from turning into an actual scuffle.
McIntyre was left laid out as Punk looked on standing tall above everyone.
What a match, angle, all of it. There is much to figure out coming out of this one.
