Winnebago – Mary Ann Nienhaus, 86, of Winnebago died Wednesday May 15, at Mapleton Community Home in Mapleton. A memorial service for Mary was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 21, 2024 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Winnebago. Burial was at St. Mary’s cemetery, Winnebago.

Mary Ann was born Feb. 2, 1938 in Minneapolis. She was raised in Winnebago graduating in 1956. On July 28, 1956 she married Bernard Nienhaus in Winnebago.

While raising her family she had various jobs in the area. At the same time, she was taking college courses, graduating from Mankato State University in 1986 with a BS in Administrative Management and later a minor in accounting.

Mary Ann was a member of St. Mary’s Parish and Rosary Society, and the Winnebago Legion Auxiliary.

She spent many years as a Girl Scout Leader.

Survivors include her children, Elaine (Kevin) Kiehm, of Delavan, Marge (Jim) Meyer, of Blue Earth, Mike (Julie Stoltz), of Winnebago, Dr. James Nienhaus, of Minneapolis, Patty Lewandowski, of Roberts, Wisconsin, Larry Nienhaus, of Fairmont, Gary (Kristy) Nienhaus, of Farmington; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; brother, Robert (Shirley) Haight, of Winnebago; brother-in-law, Donald (Leone) Nienhaus, of Blue Earth; and many nieces and nephews.

Mary is preceded in death by her husband, Bernard; parents, Agnes and Everett Haight; in-laws, William and Juliana Nienhaus; son-in-law, Chester Lewandowski; sister-in-law, Elaine (Joe) Gahl.
