Marvel’s Midnight Suns is now free on Epic Games Store, as next week’s free game is leaked | VGC

This week’s free Epic Games Store game has been released, just as next week’s title is leaked.

Confirming an earlier leak, Marvel’s Midnight Suns is now available to claim for free on Epic Games Store, and will remain available until June 13 at 4pm BST.

As ever, players who claim the game before then will have it added to their library permanently.

Just as Midnight Suns was introduced as this week’s free game, Dealabs user Billbil-kun, who regularly leaks each free Epic Games Store title, revealed which game will be replacing it in a week’s time.

According to the insider, when Marvel’s Midnight Suns’ free period is over, it will be replaced by futuristic racing game Redout 2, which was released in 2022.

Marvel’s Midnight Suns was released in December 2022 and failed to make a list of the UK’s 100 best-selling games of 2022.

While the game was reviewed positively, all versions were heavily discounted within a month of release, suggesting that its publisher had been disappointed with its commercial performance.

In a recent interview with VGC, the game’s director Jake Solomon – who subsequently left its studio Firaxis Games to set up his own studio, Midsummer Games – says he believes the game was loved by those who played it, but the decision to use a card-based battling mechanic may have put some players off.

Redout 2 will reportedly be next week’s free game

“The most typical reaction when people play Midnight Suns is surprise, and that’s not the reaction you want,” he told us. “That is not the reaction that lends itself to mass appeal.

“I think cards were a major problem. I think it was a good design solution, but I think I was naive about what people would think when they saw the mechanic was cards. Not everyone on my team was behind the idea, but they trusted me.”
