Marion County Sheriff recommends limiting travel until flood waters come down

Marion County Sheriff Kevin Cripps is recommending you not travel unless it is a necessity until flood waters recede.

He reports water is on the pavement in many locations on even the US and State highways in Marion County.   Route 37 near the Cartter Road south of Salem remains closed due to high water.  Water is also across the road on Route 37 north of Kell Road. High water is reported on Route 37 near Basom Road and travel is not recommended.

The Salem Police Department reports the pumps are now working and the East Main Street railroad underpass has reopened to all traffic.   Salem Police are reporting waist-deep water on West Whitaker and Cross Creek Boulevard where flooding has not been an issue in the past.  Airport Road has high water north of Mills Crossing.  The 200 block of South Hotze south of the railroad tracks is flooded.  Kell Street east of South College is impassable.  The north on ramp to I-57 from West Main is impassable.

The City of Centralia reports water on some roads, but all are passable.

In the Patoka area, Flat Branch and North Fork crossings are not passable due to rising water.  Water is also reported on the pavement in several locations on Kinoka Road.

We are getting multiple rain gauge readings in the southern part of Marion County where rain totals are 3.5 to 4 inches.  The Salem Water Plant reports the Salem Reservoir is 17 inches over the spillway at nine am, just an inch short of where a flood watch is issued.   Raccoon Lake is full and one gate is fully open and another partially open.   That will cause flooding issues downstream including the closure of Brick Hill Road.
