Map: Kroger and Albertsons plan to sell these 26 D-FW grocery stores

Grocery giants Kroger and Albertsons will sell 28 Texas stores, 26 of which are located in the D-FW area if its proposed $24.6 billion merger goes through.

In a little over a month, both companies go to court in Portland with the U.S. Federal Trade Commission. It’s expected that regulators will decide at that time whether the merger will be approved.

If things go according to plan, Kroger and Albertsons will sell the selected stores to Keene, New Hamp.-based C&S Wholesale Grocers. C&S is wholesale grocery supply company that also owns a dozen private brands, according to its website, including Piggly Wiggly. C&S says the transaction is not final and C&S’s agreement is subject to Kroger and Albertsons resolving the pending cases in court.

The company has not confirmed what its specific plans for the Texas locations will be. A C&S spokesperson told The News on Friday in an email that “in order to ensure these stores continue to thrive, we also will be welcoming hundreds of highly skilled grocery retail veterans and tens of thousands of store associates from Kroger and Albertsons who are currently responsible for these stores.”
