We’ve already gotten a glimpse at the future of gaming thanks to the PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo events held during the month of Summer Showcases, but for anyone looking to experience time travel, this week’s Limited Run Games livestream was the place to be. The LRG3 2024 Showcase–a nice little nod to E3–had dozens of announcements, ranging from surprise reveals like the Gex Trilogy to quick looks at upcoming games you’ve probably never heard of. And a new collection of Bubsy games, because someone has a fondness for that franchise.
Some of the highlights included a look at the premium edition of Star Wars: Dark Forces Remastered, a handsome treasure trove of art cards, a cool poster, and even a book full of retrospective essays on the beloved game. Then there was the reveal that three titles from the classic Bishojo action game series Valis will be ported to Switch later this year as part of the Valis: The Fantasm Soldier Collection. There’ll be a fresh chance to pummel in the faces of goons in the Fighting Force Collection next year. If you’re looking for some news to mech your day, the reveal of Assault Suit Leynos 2: Saturn Tribute looks like a blast from the past.
For more recent titles, Limited Run Games teased physical editions of 3D platformer Penny’s Big Breakaway, 2.5D Platformer Double Shake, and Beyond Good & Evil: 20th Anniversary Edition. After being revealed a few hours earlier than anticipated, the official announcement trailer for the Ubisoft game showed off its new graphical enhancements, upgraded sounds, and behind-the-scenes extras included in this release.
You can check out all the games getting a physical release below, and if you’re looking to pick up a few of them for yourself, you can grab a preorder on Limited Run Games. You’ll probably want to move fast, as these limited-edition releases typically sell out very quickly.
