‘Last of Us’ Season 2 Casts Jeffrey Wright as Isaac, Reprising His Video Game Role

Jeffrey Wright has joined “The Last of Us” Season 2 at HBO, Variety has learned.

Wright will appear in the role of Isaac, whom he previously played in “The Last Us Part II” video game. The character is described as “the quietly powerful leader of a large militia group who sought liberty but instead has become mired in an endless war against a surprisingly resourceful enemy.”

Wright will appear in the series alongside returning series leads Pedro Pascal, Bella Ramsey, Gabriel Luna, and Rutina Wesley. New cast members this season include Kaitlyn Dever as Abby, Isabela Merced as Dina, Young Mazino as Jesse, Ariela Barer as Mel, Tati Gabrielle as Nora, Spencer Lord as Owen, and Danny Ramirez as Manny. Catherine O’Hara also guest stars in an undisclosed role.

Wright is one of the most acclaimed actors of his generation. He recently received his first Academy Award nomination for his leading role in the film “American Fiction,” for which he also got a Golden Globe nod. He is a five-time Emmy Award nominee as well, winning the award for best supporting actor in a miniseries for HBO’s “Angels in America.” He had prevously won a Tony Award for the Broadway production of “Angels in America.” He was nominated for three Emmys for his work on HBO’s “Westworld,” and most recently for best voiceover performance for the Marvel animated series “What If…?” Wright’s other credits include “The Batman,” three of the Daniel Craig James Bond films, “Asteroid City,” and the two “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay” films.

He is repped by CAA, Strategic PR and Jackoway Austen Tyerman.

“The Last of Us” is written and executive produced by Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann. Both have also directed episodes of the show and will do so again in Season 2. Carolyn Strauss and Evan Wells, president of Naughty Dog, executive produce along with PlayStation Productions’ Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan as well as Jacqueline Lesko and Cecil O’Connor. The series is a co-production between HBO and Sony Pictures Television. PlayStation Productions, Word Games, The Mighty Mint, and Naughty Dog produce.
