Las Vegas casino must give away $1.6 million before closing next week
A Las Vegas casino will be giving away $1.6 million in prizes in the next seven days before it closes for good — as required by Nevada law.
The Mirage will shut its doors on July 17 after more than three decades on the Vegas strip, ABC7 reported Tuesday.
But before it can close, the casino must hand out the big cash prizes in unclaimed progressive jackpots from both slot machines and games.
Progressive jackpots are owed to players and gamblers and any remaining balances must be paid out before a casino shutters under Nevada state law, according to the news station.
The Mirage plans to dole out the cash with guaranteed winnings from Tuesday, July 9 to Tuesday, July 16.
The casino, which opened in 1989, will hand out $200,000 in guaranteed winnings on the slots each day between the first Tuesday through Thursday.
Then on Friday and Saturday, the prize will rise to $250,000 before dropping to $100,000 on July 16.
The slot machine prizes must total $1.2 million and another $400,000 will be awarded in winnings from table game jackpots.
More information about the cash giveaways and game rules can be found on the casino’s website.
The Mirage will be converted into a new Hard Rock Hotel & Casino with an expected opening date in 2027.
