Kate Middleton Seen for First Time Since Cancer Announcement in New Photo, Says ‘I Am Not Out of the Woods Yet’

Kate Middleton has released a new photo amid her cancer diagnosis.

The Princess of Wales, 42, appeared in a new photo released on June 14, marking the first image of Kate since she shared her cancer news publicly in an emotional video in March. The snap shows the royal outdoors in Windsor, where she lives with Prince William and their three children, dressed casually in jeans and a blazer with her arms folded.

Kate Middleton posed in Windsor for a photo taken by Matt Porteous, marking the first new image of her since she shared her cancer diagnosis.

The picture was taken by Matt Porteous, a photographer who is behind many of Princess Kate and Prince William’s family photos.

A personal letter from Kate was also shared on June 14 with an update on her cancer treatment.

“I have been blown away by all the kind messages of support and encouragement over the last couple of months,” she said. “It really has made the world of difference to William and me and has helped us both through some of the harder times.”

“I am making good progress, but as anyone going through chemotherapy will know, there are good days and bad days. On those bad days, you feel weak, tired and you have to give in to your body resting. But on the good days, when you feel stronger, you want to make the most of feeling well,” she continued.

The Princess of Wales said her cancer treatment will continue for “a few more months.”

“On the days I feel well enough, it is a joy to engage with school life, spend personal time on the things that give me energy and positivity, as well as starting to do a little work from home,” Kate said.

Princess Kate also confirmed that she plans to attend Trooping the Colour, King Charles‘ official birthday celebration, on June 15. The event will be her first time publicly stepping out with the royals since Christmas.

“I’m looking forward to attending the King’s Birthday Parade this weekend with my family and hope to join a few public engagements over the summer, but equally knowing I am not out of the woods yet,” she said. “I am learning how to be patient, especially with uncertainty. Taking each day as it comes, listening to my body, and allowing myself to take this much-needed time to heal. Thank you so much for your continued understanding, and to all of you who have so bravely shared your stories with me.”

Princess Kate was recently spotted out with her family as well as running errands solo, sources told PEOPLE, and Prince William said last month that his wife is “doing well.”

Regarding outings in the near future, no decisions have been made on specific plans, but Princess Kate will attend events as she is able. This won’t signal a full-time return to her royal work, and no date has been set regarding when that will be as she continues her treatment and recovery.
