JUST IN: 5-star Magnolia State prospect names top schools

Ackerman (Miss.) Choctaw five-star wide receiver Caleb Cunningham took official visits to Auburn, Florida, Tennessee and Alabama this summer. He has taken numerous visits to Mississippi State and Ole Miss as well. Those are the schools he is now focused on.

“These six schools have made me feel at home and I feel comfortable when I am there,” Cunningham told On3. “All six schools have things I like, like the coaches, the environment and the people. I like the offenses they run too.

“Then all six schools are a little different. Each has something different that I like too. I have visited all six multiple times, I love the energy at each school and I know I can get along with the coaches and fit into each offense. That is why I am focused on Alabama, Auburn, State, Ole Miss, Florida and Tennessee.”

The No. 15 prospect in the On3 Industry Ranking has always planned to take his recruitment the distance. Cunningham has always talked about making a decision close to or on Signing Day in December. Those plans have changed.

“I am thinking about committing sometime in July now. It is going to happen sooner than I thought it would. I have been going through the process for a while and I have taken a lot of visits, so I feel better about making a decision a little earlier.”

Cunningham knows what he is looking for in a school

The No. 1 player in Mississippi is fresh off a visit to Tuscaloosa, where he named the Crimson Tide his leader. Whenever he feels ready to make a decision, he knows what is most important to him.

“It is about the people for me,” Cunningham said. “Where do I feel most comfortable? That is what I am looking for. Then I look at the development, the coaches record with receivers and how I could be coached and developed. The quarterback is big for me too. I want to see who I would play with, who would throw me the ball and the connection we have. Those will be the biggest factors in my decision.”
